As a highly accomplished scientist, Professor Frederick Khachik is well known for his two patents - the isolation and purification of Lutein from marigold flowers. Collaborating with Professor Nishino and his team at Kyoto University School of Medicine, they demonstrated the importance of dietary carotenoids such as Lycopene and Lutein.

These 6 carotenoids are said to take up about 85% of the carotenoids found in the human body. The fact that carotenoids are found in the human body proves that they are absorbed in the body, and we can come to think of them having some kind of beneficial effects to our body.

Lutein

One of 600 known naturally occurring carotenoids. Lutein, a pigment ranging from yellow to orange, is naturally abundant in green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale and yellow carrots.

Lycopene

Lycopene is a naturally occuring red carotenoid pigment that is responsible in red to pink colors seen in fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, pink grapefruit, red carrots, papayas etc.

α-carotene

They are the Provitamin A carotenoids. These carotenoids convert to vitamin A, which is needed by the body and are therefore widely studied. Prior to conversion, carotene has a strong antioxidant effect.

β-carotene

β-cryptoxanthin

A carotenoid found in fruits and vegetables such as tangerines, red peppers, and pumpkin. It has several functions important for human health. It is an ingredient that is attracting a lot of attention for its benefits.

Zeaxanthin

Zeaxanthin is an orange-yellow colour pigment which is similar in nature to Lutein. It can be found in papaya, corn and wolfberries and is also abundant in green tea, egg yolk and animal fat and liver. Metabolised lutein converts to zeaxanthin.

Mirtogenol® is an ingredient with international patent in 21 countries, made by combining French maritime pine bark extract Pycnogenol® and standardised bilberry extract Mirtoselect™. Their respective pioneers—Horphag Research of Switzerland and Indena of Italy—focused on the interaction between these two ingredients and jointly developed Mirtogenol®. Naturally Plus firmly believes in the potential of this ingredient. Therefore, the "Super Lutein Mirtoplus" was successfully developed.
